Macarena Gutiérrez Gebauer
Statement
As an artist, I seek to rescue memories, knowledge, and even bodies hidden and rendered invisible by the processes of historical writing. I believe my work blends Latin American syncretism with the reflection of object art, which focuses on the associative relationships of objects with each other and with their internal and external context. I long to understand, through art, my personal, cultural, and territorial identity and contribute to the community from there.
My artistic research develops from an active, critical, and decolonial perspective. To this end, I draw on different languages, with practices associated with the feminine sphere prominent. I seek to achieve a broad visual expression, integrating different artistic languages into a work that approaches the intersection of academic craft and domestic craftsmanship. This research approach responds to my personal need to revitalize the invisible symbolic and material connection in the global world.
I long for minimal, precarious, and ephemeral actions to have the disruptive power to partially suspend the routine hegemony of our existence, allowing us to observe from the perspective of individual poetic precariousness and endow our actions with collective self-awareness.
