Installation within a collective exhibition
Date
2013-2014
Location
Art gallery, Balmaceda Arte Joven, Puerto Montt, Los Ríos Region, Chile
Work for the collective exhibition "396 Kms. National Circulation of Contemporary Art". The work was exhibited at the Balmaceda Arte Joven art gallery in Puerto Montt and Antofagasta in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
The installation of chairs is a continuum in my work. I see that the object evokes the absent body. Furthermore, in this case, I placed two chairs: one covered in llama fabric from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, and the other chair covered in sheep wool purchased at the Angelmó market in the city of Puerto Montt, 2,396 kilometers from Antofagasta. Thus, I positioned a north chair and a south chair, facing each other, where both are 1.5 meters apart, joined by a diagonal thread that runs from the seat of one to the back of the other. Meanwhile, from each backrest, the threads of the weave of the fabric emerge towards the ceiling of the exhibition space. It gives the idea of a connection between these two bodies, regardless of the distance from the cardinal points of origin of their materiality.
